Who Turned Out the Lights?

More than 650 million people, mostly in northern India, suffered from two massive power outages on August 13 and 14. People were stuck without electricity in stores, streets, elevators and trains. Two hundred miners were trapped below ground. The cause of the blackout isn’t entirely clear but old equipment, huge demand, fuel shortages, and light summer rains that lowered production of hydropower are thought to have contributed to the outage.
