The Issue: The Economy
The cost of basic goods people need is increasing, but people’s income is not going up. The numbers of unemployed people and people losing their homes is growing. Here’s what the candidates say:

- Lower taxes for working families, make it easier for workers to form unions; create more jobs; raise the minimum wage; more affordable housing


- Create jobs; balance the budget; lower energy and health care costs for small businesses; lower taxes for businesses; help homeowners get a loan they can manage


- Create jobs; raise minimum wage; stop giving lots of government money to big businesses and the military; rebuild transportation, schools and health facilities


- Less money to the military prisons and big businesses; rebuild transportation and schools; create a national living wage; expand affordable housing


- Greatly reduce government spending on everything, including programs to help the poor, big corporations and the military; private charities for the needy


- Change economy so that basic needs of all people are met; stop evictions; raise minimum wage to $15 an hour; job training for youths
