The Issue: Global Warming
Humans burning fossil fuels for energy have caused carbon dioxide and other gases to build up in the atmosphere. These gases are causing temperatures to rise and change weather patterns, threatening the planet. Here’s what the candidates say:

- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050; require companies to buy the right to pollute; create green jobs by making energy more clean and efficient

- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions 66 percent by 2050; require companies to buy the right to pollute; develop low carbon-emission technology

- Prioritize protecting the environment through all areas of government; punish polluters by making them pay a tax, and use the money to clean up the environment

- Cut carbon emissions by giving funds for clean energy production and transportation; supports promoting solar, wind and other sustainable energy sources

- Conduct more research on global warming to find out if humans are responsible for causing it; economic solutions for environmental problems

- Change the economy so that corporations cannot make a profit by polluting; build public transit to reduce the need for cars and reduce global warming
