Deportation and Family Separation

In 2011, almost 400,000 people were deported from the United States and more than 360,000 were detained by ICE. According to a recent report by Race Forward, 22 percent of deported immigrants are parents of children who are U.S. citizens.

An immigrants’ rights rally in New York City on October 21 was a response to Congress’ failure to propose and pass a fair and humane bill for immigrants. Marchers demanded that legal status be given to all undocumented immigrants and that the deportation and detention of immigrants be ended.
