Sea-Slug Chefs

Scientists have discovered that a lowly sea slug has the amazing ability to produce its own food, just as plants do. The slugs’ favorite food is algae, and inside the algae cells are chloroplasts. These chloroplasts, together with chlorophyll, make food from water and carbon dioxide. Slug studiers knew that sea slugs grabbed chloroplasts from algae, but the big surprise is that they can manufacture their own chlorophyll.
