Musharraf Resigns

By INDYKIDS STAFF

Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf resigned on August 19, facing charges of not following Pakistan’s constitution. Musharraf took power in Pakistan in 1999 in a military takeover and suspended the constitution (stopped it from working) in 2007 so that he could stay in power. As a key U.S. ally in the “war on terror,” Musharraf received billions in U.S. aid. Pakistan will hold elections to determine who will replace Musharraf as president.
