My name is Shanty, and I enjoy reading, writing, and analyzing. One of my favorite things to do is create art, whether it’s poetry or paintings. I would describe myself as optimistic and, overall, a joyful and logical person. I am 11 years old, and I live in Manhattan, N. Y.
IK: As a young journalist, what is your favorite article you’ve ever written for IndyKids and why?
ST: My favorite article I have written for IndyKids is my freshwater article. I personally favor it because it was my first article, and because it really brings awareness to the ecosystem which people are taking for granted.
IK: Pretend you’re talking to a kid who has never heard of IndyKids. How would you describe IndyKids and the experience of writing an article?
ST: It is lengthy, but the results are worth it. While you do have to research a lot, it is for a good cause, as the article can end up beautiful and neat.
IK: Can you share something you’ve learned from your experience at IndyKids?
ST: Always cite your sources, and don’t use “I” pronouns.
IK: How do you think being a kid reporter contributes to raising awareness and promoting positive change in your community or the world?
ST: I learn a lot from the articles I write, so it helps me inform my parents, my friends, and even myself about the topic.
