The duck-billed platypus is a unique animal.
It is a monotreme,or a
an egg-laying mammal. Today there are only 2 species of monotreme remaining,
the platypus and the echidna.
Fact:
Platypus are only found in Australia.

Even though the platypus lives mainly
in the water, they breathes air.
Fact:
Female platypuses can dig up to 60 feet in the ground to
make their breeding nests.

With it’s unique appearance, the duck-billed platypus is a sight to behold! However, there are other reasons why it stands out in the animal kingdom. The platypus is a monotreme, or an egg-laying mammal. Today, only two species of monotreme remain: the platypus and the spiny anteater.

Fact:

Platypuses are only found in Australia.

Fact:

Even though platypuses live mainly in the water, they breathe air.

Fact:

Female platypuses can dig up to 60 feet in the ground to make their breeding nests.

Fact:

There are three ways to say the plural of platypus:  platypuses, platypoda and platypus are all recognized.
