Getting Wild with the Collared Mongoose

Mongooses are mammals that look like ferrets. There are 37 known species of mongoose and depending on their species their sizes vary from 7  to 25 inches in length (not including their tails) and they can weigh between 12 ounces to 11 pounds. Fauna and Flora International, as well as Live Science reported that rangers spotted a rare type of collared mongoose with red hair in Indonesia.

* Mongooses can strangle and kill snakes.

* The collared mongoose can be found in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and Sumatra—islands in the South China Sea.

* Mongooses are carnivores, and eat smaller animals, insects, fruits and nuts.

* Mongooses can live up to20 years in captivity and up to 60 years in the wild.
