Icelandic and Norweigan legends describe a giant octopus that destroyed ships at sea: a Kraken. On October 10, paleontologist Mark McMenamin told the Geological Society of America that he has found proof of this ancient creature’s existence, as well as the first known self-portrait, by the octopus! Most paleontologists think McMenamin’s proof is indirect and not conclusive. They would like to see physical evidence of the Kraken.
