The Arenal Volcano (Costa Rica) – a stratovolcano – has had peculiar eruptions over the years. A stratovolcano is basically a volcano with multiple layers of sediments. Its largest eruption (1968) has stunned its inhabitants after 400 years of dormancy. The Arenal volcano has had different eruptions over the years: pyroclastic flows and lava flows. Scientists aren’t sure when this massive volcano will erupt again, but even after a period of low seismic activity, they still think it will erupt again. Despite the danger, it has excellent tourist activity.
