My name is Semya Tabala (formerly Aisha Tabala), and I am thrilled to share my journey with IndyKids as we celebrate their 20th anniversary. IndyKids has been a pivotal part of my growth, empowering young voices and fostering a community dedicated to social justice. Through their program, I explored important topics such as New York’s Latinx culture, immigration, and the power of storytelling, which have profoundly shaped my perspective. I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Isis for her unwavering support and guidance throughout my journey. Additionally, a special thank you to my mentors, who have inspired me and believed in me, shaping my path in storytelling and leadership. I am forever grateful to Ms. Hirsch, my technology teacher and lifelong mentor, for introducing me to IndyKids and for all the encouragement she has provided.

In my experience writing for IndyKids, I discovered the power of youth journalism and how important it is to share real stories. I got involved thanks to my lovely tech teacher, Ms. Hirsch, who introduced me to the program and believed in my potential. Being part of their team helped shape my confidence and voice as a young writer. Itโs truly meaningful to celebrate their 20th anniversary, knowing I once contributed to a mission that uplifts and informs kids everywhere.
