Forty Millon Dollar Slaves: The Rise Fall and Redemption of the Black Athlete is about African-American athletes, and how they make their way to the top of the sports world, including the discrimination, prejudice and injustice that came with the sacrifices these athletes had to make to get where they are now.  Many well-known African-American athletes are mentioned in this book like Former NBA superstar, Michael Jordan, and former boxing heavyweight champion, Muhammad Ali. You also learn about some unfamiliar faces such as Major Taylor, a successful cyclist and Arthur (Rube) Foster, the creator of the National Negro League.

William C. Rhoden has created a work of art with this book. Teens and adults will find this book very informational and interesting. William C. Rhoden is not just some guy talking about sports and African-American athletes, he has written countless articles for the New York Times sports columns so he has loads of experience writing about sports. So if you want to learn how race affected sports from the times of segregation to today’s era, read this book — you will not be disappointed!
