20 Years of IndyKids: A Heartfelt Thank You

As we celebrate 20 years of IndyKids, our hearts are full of gratitude. What began in 2005 as a grassroots effort by parents, educators, and journalists who believed kids deserved their own independent, ad-free news source has grown into something truly powerful. In 2011, the launch of the Kid Reporter Program opened the door for young people, ages 10 to 14, to step into the role of journalists, learning to question, research, write, and speak truth with clarity and courage. These youth reporters have not only covered important stories, but have shown us how deeply young people care about justice, the environment, education, and their communities. For two decades, IndyKids has made its way into homes, schools, libraries, and coffee shops, sparking conversations, curiosity, and change. If youโ€™ve read an issue, shared it with a student, donated, supported a young scholarship reporter, or simply believed in the power of youth voice, we thank you. This anniversary is more than a celebration of time passed. Itโ€™s a celebration of the community that made IndyKids possible and the young people who will carry it forward. Here’s to the next 20 years of youth-powered media!
